Stock control plays an important role, and must accommodate a long 12 - 16 weeks supply lead time. In the past forecasting relied upon a manual input from Sales, but it has proven that automatic forecasting based on historical data is far more reliable and comprehensive.
Prior to Slim4, and due to a rapid growth in the range of products, only 15% of the range was actively monitored; seasonal patterns and trends were overlooked. As a result of the better forecasts the service level has improved; moreover, transport charges are now significantly lower, less emergency shipments by air cargo are needed and the number of back orders has been largely eliminated.
